Ex Easter Island Head

& BBC Philharmonic Ensemble

Back in 2015 Samarbeta brought a very special collaboration to Sounds From the Other City festival between Liverpool based trio Ex Easter Island Head (EEIH) & selected members from the BBC Philharmonic. You can listen to a 2 minute excerpt of the 25 minute piece here.

EEIH composed a new piece specifically for a performance that was debuted at Sounds From the Other City (SFTOC) festival on Sunday May 3rd 2015 and performed just twice on the day.

Ahead of their new collaboration at this years Sounds From the Other City we wanted to share with you a small excerpt of the track from last year.

More about the project:

The EEIH trio form an ensemble composing and performing music for solid-body electric guitar, percussion and other instruments, they have worked within many different genres and are passionate about the music they create. They have a wide variety of skill sets which make them ideal to take on this challenge.

The BBC Philharmonic is an internationally renowned broadcasting orchestra based in Salford. It supports and nurtures emerging talent from across the North West, working closely with Salford City Council and other partners to provide unique opportunities like this one for musicians of all ages to work with players from the orchestra.

The BBC Philharmonic Ensemble last year featured a harpist, a saxophonist and a string duo, it was rehearsed at the BBC Philharmonic Studio in MediaCityUK and debuted at Vimto Gardens on Sunday May 3rd as part of SFTOC.

This years piece will feature a double bass, a harpist, a trumpet and a violin and has been rehearsed at Islington Mill. The piece has been composed and will be performed in the grand surroundings of Salford Cathedral, a festival first.

It will be performed twice on the day (19:45pm & 21:00) and will have a limited audience capacity. The festival itself is a ticketed event and this performance will be a FREE ticket within the event, available to collect from Islington Mill on the day of the performance from 2pm onwards.
